Upcoming Stitch Related Activities in Asheville Area for August 2017

The Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA) will host its National Seminar, Blue Ridge Rendezvous in Asheville at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville Aug 15 noon - 6 pm, Aug 16 - 19 from 7:30 am to 6 pm. The Education Exhibition will be in the Expo Center at the Crowne Plaza Resort. It is free open to the public. Over 170 pieces by 70+ artists include EGA’s classes and programs plus original work. I am particularly fond of this year’s Challenge entries Stitching in Series. I served as consultant for this Challenge. The work is from the heart and embodies a tremendous range of embroidery techniques.

The new EGA Through the Needle’s Eye Exhibit will be open August 16 – September 15, 2017 at the Transylvania Community Arts Council, 349 South Caldwell Street, Brevard, NC. This is a free exhibit of 46 pieces displaying a wide variety of needlework techniques that will travel around the United States for three years. Two of my works juried in. EGA headquarters will lend a selection of pieces featuring the EGA logo stitched in a variety of techniques as well as a display of framed postcards that show the National Tapestry. The Laurel Chapter (Hendersonville/Asheville) will feature projects stitched by its very talented members.

Taming the Stash Monster

Taming the Stash Monster, an EGA Correspondence Course

Is the Stash Monster taking over your closet, room ... house?  Do you feel stalled with a box full of UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) and a stash of beautiful projects, threads, canvases, fabrics, beads, and more?  This course can help you get your stash under control.  First, define your preferences so that you can decide what YOU want to keep in your stash (and what you can remove).  Three ways of clearing your stash are given, depending on how much stash you need to remove.  Resources are provided for donating or selling eliminated items.  You’ll learn the requirements for archival storage, ways to prevent or solve stash problems such as insects, mildew, and fading. This course will help you make your stash work more effectively for you!  More information at
